So our mission is simple: We are committed to raising 1 million people in coconut farming communities out of poverty through our Give, Grow, Guide philosophy. Currently we focus on Sri Lanka and the Philippines because they are two of the largest coconut producing regions in the world and where we can make a bigger impact.
We find and invest in projects that give back to our coconut farming communities.
All children have the right to learn in a safe, nurturing environment. Some students in the Philippines don't have access to a real school, instead receiving studies under trees. Through our program partner HOPE we are building classrooms to provide students with a proper place to study and help encourage them to attend school more often.
Each year we award scholarships to a group of top-performing students who live in the communities where we source from. These awesome students are family members of local farmers and factory employees who are given the chance to get a strong education and prosper in the future.
Microloans for Entrepreneurs
Kiva understands how important financial support is for entrepreneurs, especially those living in developing countries. Through our partnership, we help to enrich countless lives and communities by providing microloans for aspiring entrepreneurs.
We help provide our farmers with programs that will generate additional income and better yielding coconut trees.
Coconuts are so self sustaining that they can grow into brand new palm trees with a little bit of tender loving care. Providing our farmers with the best performing coconut seedlings means we can help them grow better yielding coconut trees.
Coconut trees grow high off the ground, which means farmers can plant complementary crops like corn, bananas, cacao, and coffee right under them. Teaching farmers how to grow the right crops provides another source of income while using the same plot of land.
Coconut Tree Fertilization
Most farmers don't use any fertilizers or are using ones that damage their soil. Training farmers to implement the correct fertilization techniques, such as using coconut husks to keep moisture in the soil, can help their trees produce more and better coconuts.
Every Piece Counts
The great thing about coconuts is that you can use every single bit of them! We use the water and meat from the coconuts to create our delicious Vita Coco products. The outer husks provide roofing for our farmers, while our factories use the inner shell as fuel to create energy and the fibers to create textiles, doormats, and planter baskets.
Sharing best practices and new technologies with our farmers to help train them for a sustainable future.
We've developed fully-functioning model farms with our program partner HOPE to teach farmers best practices, how to intercrop and grow the best coconut trees, and test next-generation farming technologies.
Redeveloping War-torn Provinces
We're implementing agro wells and teaching communities how to grow coconuts in previously war-torn Sri Lankan provinces. Investing in these poor areas helps provide a stable income for the community and advance coconut production in Sri Lanka.
