Heart friendly and healthy, coconut oil is here to stay.
Always wondered how good coconut oil REALLY is for you? We swear by it, no surprises! But we were super excited to see BBC2’s Trust Me I’m A Doctor, hosted by Dr Michael Mosley, recently uncovered some truths to clear up any confusion! The show revealed new research about the many health benefits of eating coconut oil.
It’s true, coconut oil is high in saturated fat, which typically doesn’t have the best name for itself, BUT what you might not know is that there are actually two types of saturated fats; LDL (low density lipoprotein) and HDH (high density lipoprotein). LDL is known as the ‘bad cholesterol’ and high levels are often linked to heart disease. HDL is the ‘good’ cholesterol, and tends to have to opposite effect. Dr Mosley's experiment found that despite coconut oil's high saturated fat, it actually reduced participants LDL (bad) cholesterol and increased their HDL (good) cholesterol, and therefore reduced their risk of heart disease.
So not only does this multi-tasking power house carry numerous beauty benefits, it's also healthy and good for your heart.
We’re feeling pretty smug about the fact we’ve been proven heart friendly, and we wanted to share the good news, in-case you hadn’t seen! Sold?
