In case the company name didn’t give it away, we’re nuts about coconuts and are always searching for new and exciting ways to consume the drupe (not a fruit…not a nut…but that’s a story for another day).
We love the water that’s inside the young, green coconut - hence Vita Coco Original. We then discovered that that very same coconut water tastes insanely delicious with (who would’ve guessed) more coconut, which led to the #ImpossibleToHate Vita Coco Pressed. We even put it in coffee with coconut milk and created a tasty vegan cold brew.
All of these products were made to cater to our customer base, who we like to call ‘disciplined balancers’. It looks fancy on presentations but essentially describes a person who leads a pretty healthy lifestyle but enjoys a pizza and a glass of wine at the weekend. Along with leading a healthy lifestyle, our customers are also busy go-getters. They have busy work lives, social lives, personal lives, ah ah ah ah staying alive (basically all the lives). This schedule leaves little time to wind down and relax and unfortunately, although we’d sell our soul for an early bedtime, gone are the days where we’re home by 4pm and our parents would force us to bed at 8pm.
Enter Vita Coco Infused. The latest innovation to emerge from the VC family. A sparkling coconut water-based drink infused with 20mg of CBD. With low sugar and only 23 calories, it turns out that coconuts and sun-grown hemp are a perfect match and even better paired with a busy lifestyle.
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol AKA CBD is one of many chemical compounds found in
the Cannabis sativa plant. (1
). Although it comes from a marijuana plant, CBD does not create any form of intoxication as that’s caused by another cannabinoid, known as THC.
With an ever-increasing focus on holistic wellness, paired with what we know about our customers’ busy lifestyles, Vita Coco Infused felt like the perfect addition to our ever-growing range of products.
According to Dr Julie Moltke, a medical doctor focusing on mental health, stress management, and the medicinal cannabis industry, scientific advisor for www.thedrug.store
and author of www.getthedose.com
, CBD acts on the system in our body which is responsible for maintaining the balance of many important functions such as sleep, mood, memory, pain, immune function, hunger, bone growth and fertility. She likens this system to the main butler in a grand hotel; “You hardly notice when he’s there and everything’s running smoothly, but [wreaks havoc] when out of order”.
Vita Coco Infused can be consumed throughout the day, but we’d particularly recommend enjoying a can in the evening as a way to wind down after a long day, making it an easy swap for an occasion that might typically call for a glass of wine. Dr Julie likens the effect of CBD to meditation as it creates a bit more space in an otherwise overcrowded mind.
Because of its coconut water base, VC Infused also serves as the perfect post-workout drink as the coconut water replenishes lost electrolytes and, as explained by Dr Julie, CBD can help to balance your cortisol levels which may be increased due to bodily stress caused by exercise.
Additionally, we’ve seen our customers enjoy it as an alcohol alternative at gigs and parties, on a Monday morning to help ease into the work week, before the work week begins to settle the Sunday Scaries, or even after a crazy weekend since the coconut water serves as a hangover cure. Basically, VC Infused is great for whenever you need a moment to replenish and soothe.
Vita Coco Infused is available in three unique flavours containing all-natural ingredients; Lemon Cardamom, Apple Ginger, and Cloved Orange.
If these flavours sound a little different - it’s for a reason. We wanted Vita Coco Infused to take people ‘there’ while still being completely delicious. The idea was to make a drink that was earthy yet refreshing. Hence citrus and spice. Lemons and cardamoms share a terpene, or flavour compound, in common that is reminiscent of pine trees, making them a wonderfully zesty pair. Cloves are known for their sharp and bitter notes of pepper, but also have a fruity taste that complements the citrus notes of orange beautifully. Ginger is a warm and peppery spice that, when paired with Apple, shows its lighter, sweet and tart lemony notes. The combination is also known to support digestion.
