10 Free Apps That Will Help you Live Better

It’s time to let your gadget be the ultimate motivator. Here are some of the best free fitness and wellbeing apps out there

Life problems? We have all the answers (kind of). We’ve found free apps to help you get to the gym, chill out and sleep better. You’re welcome.

1. BUDDHIFY

Tired Lady Feeling Terrific

We know how it is; you’re busy, you don’t have time for any of that zen-malarkey. Think again, download Buddhify and get mindfulness on the go. This free app provides custom-made meditations for 15 different parts of the day; from your journey to work, being online, your lunch break, and sleepy time. The Buddhify tracks range from 5 – 30 minutes and number crunchers will be pleased to know that there are stats showing your usage and progress.

2. SLEEP CYCLE

How do you expect to be the best you can be if you’ve had a shitty night’s sleep? For those of you who aren’t productive in the morning and can barely string a sentence together before 10am (and after five cups of coffee) we’ve got just the app for you – Sleep Cycle. This free app is the intelligent alarm clock that analyses your sleep and wakes you up in the lightest sleep phase. Perfect for you grumpy morning types.

3. NIKE+ TRAINING CLUB

If you want to hit the gym more regularly but don’t want to pay a personal trainer to bully you out of bed, there’s an app for that. The Nike+ Training Club has more than 60 workouts ranging from hour long sessions to quick 15-minute toners. The more you use the app the more ‘rewards’ you get. Perfect or those of you who want to see results AND prizes.

4. HAPPIFY

Are you turning into a ‘glass half empty’ kind of person? A perfect night out is actually a night in on the sofa watching Game of Thrones whilst tucking into a bag of Minstrels? Download Happify, an app designed to improve your overall happiness and you will see things change. It starts with some admin – a personality quiz that analyses what could help you enjoy life a little bit more. Our favourite thing about this app? It has a Daily section that surfaces uplifting articles, and there’s a Community tab for seeing positive moments from other Happify users.

5. YOGA STUDIO

Yoga bunnies, you’re going to love this! Download the awesome Yoga Studio app and get your tie-dye leggings out of the drawer. You can choose from 16 hours of ready-made video classes, and there are bespoke classes where you choose from over 260 moves. The best bit? You can do it in the privacy of your own home – there’s no need to have a sweaty dude doing the Downward Dog right in front of you.

6. DAILY AB WORKOUT

Sometimes we like to imagine what life would be like with a six-pack; more often than not we don’t. But you know, if you do then why not download the Daily Ab Workout just to fool yourself that one day you might just go for it. This free app includes hundreds of exercises and lets you create bespoke six-pack workouts. It’s not all about fitness though, the app has a section on healthy foods to help you burn fat.

7. HEADSPACE

The Headspace app was set up by former Buddhist monk Andy Puddicombe, offering simple yet effective meditation techniques. The free Headspace app has a series of 10-minute meditations which can be downloaded and listened to without the internet. What, no internet? Exactly. That’s what he’s talking about…

8. CALM

Black eyed peas - shut up

Sometimes the world is just full of noise; whether it’s an annoying co-worker (must they crunch their biscuits that LOUDLY) or the builders drilling constantly in the house next door, sometimes you just need to cancel it all out and get a little zen in your life. The Calm app is perfect because it offers some lovely sounds (think rainfall and crashing waves) and simple instructions to aid escapism. Repeat after us, ‘ooommmmmm’.

9. TAKE A BREAK

If you have breakfast, lunch and dinner at your desk, you need to stop and take a break. And no, we’re not talking about the two finger chocolate biscuit! Take a Break gives you the option to listen to guided meditation talks with or without music/nature sounds. This one will help you change your ways without making huge sacrifices.
10. IDRATED
Drinking large glass of wine

Yes, this app basically tells you that you’re not drinking enough water and that you are rubbish at doing a very basic thing. But still, we love this free app. iDrated tracks your daily water usage and sets you targets. Simples.
