Yes! After coconuts are harvested, washed, and cracked open, the liquid inside is flash-pasteurized and then packaged in a Tetra Pak. Do you refrigerate coconut oil?
Nope—just store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
What does “unrefined” mean?
Some brands “refine” their coconut oil, meaning that they chemically process and bleach dried coconut meat before extracting the oil. We don’t. Vita Coco is cold-pressed and chemical free, which makes it “unrefined.”

Who is Plant People?
Plant People is a respected and trusted brand in the world of consumer hemp products. Their mission is to empower people to make alternative and more positive choices when it comes to healing the body, mind and planet. Like those of us at Vita Coco, they believe in the power that natural, whole ingredients hold, whether that’s coconut, hemp, or other plants. Oh, they’re also our friends too. They’re wonderful people who we love spending time with.
Why did Vita Coco work with Plant People to create Vita Coco Infused?
Both Vita Coco and Plant People were looking to enter the hemp-infused beverage world. More importantly, we both wanted to do it right. While Vita Coco had a hunch that hemp would be a great complement to our coconut water, we lacked the hemp expertise to really know for sure. We’re coconut experts, after all, not hemp experts. At the same time, our friends at Plant People saw an opportunity to bring hemp into delicious and refreshing drinks but didn’t really know where to begin either. When we combined both our expertise, our shared values, and our shared mission to give back to our respective farming communities, it was a match made in hemp heaven.
What can I do with a coconut shell?
A LOT. Looking for a new bikini top? Coconut shells. Need a very small hardhat? Coconut shells. Broken maracas? Coconut shells again. See? The possibilities are endless.
Is a coconut a nut?
Nope! Despite the name, coconuts are fibrous, one-seeded fruits called drupes. Other members of team drupe include peaches, nectarines, cherries, and dates.
How long does it take to grow a coconut palm tree?
So, here’s the thing: you can have a fully-grown palm tree in as soon as three years (yay!)--but, it won’t start to yield coconuts until somewhere around it’s sixth birthday (aww!). In fact, it can take as long as 15 years for a palm tree to really get going on coconut growth! And if you’re planning on growing one indoors, make sure you have a skylight, because these guys can grow up to 98 feet tall.
How did you decide on the Vita Coco Infused flavors you have?
We know they’re a little different from what you expect from a coconut water company. We wanted Vita Coco Infused to take people ‘there’ while still being completely delicious. The idea was to make a drink that was earthy, yet refreshing. We tried putting potting soil in lemonade but that didn’t work. Hannah in marketing had the brilliant idea of combining citrus with spice — and that’s how we got our flavors! Thanks, Hannah!
